THE MAKING OF.

Step 1. Confinement.

Like everywhere else on this planet lockdown was announced in the Netherlands. I had medical missions planned, but obviously this wasn't going to happen. Same for all the other things one looks out for in daily life. Although it was busy working in the hospital, pretty soon it came to my mind: If I can't travel, discover, wander or experience new things OUTSIDE, why not start a journey INSIDE. Let's find stuff I can do within the four walls of my home, be independent of all the restrictions.

Step 2. Sewing.

I'm always out and about. So, I told myself: every time you want to go somewhere, but cannot: go sit behind your sewing machine. I discovered adults react the same on tinkering as four year olds: you chill out, it's like meditating. To my surprise my "confinement collection" came alive.

Step 3. Ok, and now what?

That was that. Plan B needed. Looking at my wall full of messages and sayings that always uplift and inspire me. At the same time watching the news. Not so uplifting and inspiring. Maybe try and spread some good vibes. And raise money for Operation Smile at the same time. Do SOMETHING to stay connected to the work I love so much. Printed sweaters I decided (and I needed them anyway to fit with the skirts of my collection).

Step 4. Sweaters it became.

Serendipity. My sewing teacher talked about this place where they print fabric in a highly sustainable way (for info click here). This company knew another place where you can order clothes that are manufactured in a highly sustainable way. A company that works closely with suppliers to source only the best raw materials, grown or produced in ways that do not harm people, animals or the environment. They exclusively use 100% GOTS certified organic cotton from India, recycled polyester from China and other sustainable materials such as Modal®.

I went to the printing place. Designed the sweaters. And made the website. So, this is how it came about.
